DIBRUGARH: In a significant move, Dibrugarh witnessed a historic administrative milestone as Jay Vikas (IAS), the newly appointed and first Commissioner of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC), arrived at the DMC office on Monday, June 9, to formally take charge of his duties. DMC Mayor Dr Saikat Patra and other officials gave him a warm welcome.

Jay Vikas, a 2021 batch IAS officer, was appointed to the post through an official order issued by the Department of Personnel (Personnel-A), Assam Secretariat, Dispur. Prior to this assignment, he served as Co-District Commissioner of North Salmara. Alongside his role at DMC, he has also been designated as Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.

This key appointment comes in line with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent announcement to position an IAS officer who will be in charge of DMC within a month. With Jay Vikas taking charge, the DMC is expected to benefit from strengthened governance and streamlined urban development, in line with the vision of positioning Dibrugarh as a key administrative and economic hub in Assam.

Mayor Dr Patra congratulated Sri Jay Vikas on assuming office and expressed optimism that his leadership would mark a new era of structured urban development and efficient governance in Dibrugarh. The brief but significant ceremony highlighted the growing importance of Dibrugarh as an urban hub in Upper Assam.
