DIBRUGARH: Although the media has gone through a phase of evolution, there are still a lot of challenges as well as scopes for reporting from the North East region in today’s digital era. Despite the changes, the basics of journalism remain the same and reports have to compulsorily go for fact checking before filing. This was stated by senior journalist Sushanta Talukdar while delivering the Kamalakanta Borgohain Memorial Lecture organized by Smritidhara, a socio-cultural organization of the former students of Dibrugarh University and the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication at the Aniruddha Deva Conference Hall in Dibrugarh University today.

Talukdar, with his huge experience of reporting from the region spanning over more than three decades, narrated the challenges of reporting which field reporters face while reporting on a variety of subjects. He also narrated how due to digitalization, local stories from the region have been able to draw the attention of global media.

The lecture session was presided over by Dr Prabin Gogoi, the Chairperson of the Journalism Centre and inaugurated by Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jiten Hazarika.

Late Kamalakanta Borgohain was a Professor in the Dept of Education and a litterateur. He was also the first Director in charge of the Journalism Centre in Dibrugarh University. Former V-C of DU Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, former Professor of Assamese Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, Prof Gopal Hazarika, and family members of Late Borgohain were also present among others.
