Assam: LAC-level Khel Maharan 2.0 kicks off in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The LAC-level Khel Maharan 2.0 under the East Kokrajhar Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) commenced from Tuesday with a three-day events. MLA of Kokrajhar East Lawrence Islary inaugurated the sporting events at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) stadium.

The events like athletics, football, volleyball, kabaddi, cycling and chess would be conducted in three venues: KDSA stadium, SAI Kokrajhar and Kashibari Sayamaya playground. Players representing 28 Village Council Development Committees (VCDCs) under the East Kokrajhar Assembly constituency are participating in the competitions, which will continue until December 5. The inaugural programme was attended by Kokrajhar District Commissioner Masanda M. Pertin, BTC Joint Secretary Phami Brahma, Deputy Secretary Rijendra Brahma, Deputy Director of Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, government of Assam Nabajit Basumatary, president of KDSA Kabiranjan Brahma, president of Kokrajhar district Assam Masters’ Athletic Association Magural Balary and other senior sports officials.

In his inaugural speech, MLA Lawrence Islary said the 2nd Khel Maharan got underway from today at KDSA playground. He said Khel Maharan in the state started since last year in VCDCS, LAC and state level to explore the sporting talents of the rural areas. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been giving priority in sports and by holding Khel Maharan, he said the youths who become champion in state and national level will get an opportunity for the government job in near future. He called upon the students to come forward and join the Khel Maharan and participate with an aim to win a prize.
