GUWAHATI: A significant quantity of seized drugs was destroyed today in Baghora in the presence of the Drugs Disposal Committee. The destroyed items included 1981.8 grams of heroin, 14.44 grams of brown sugar, 238.398 kilograms of cannabis, 244 bottles of cough syrup, and 335 tablets. The total value of the seized drugs was estimated at Rs. 5.21 crore.

The destruction was carried out as part of ongoing anti-narcotics operation to combat drug trafficking and ensure that seized narcotics do not enter the market.

In another operation, the South Salmara Police carried out a major operation against drug trafficking, seizing 252 grams of heroin worth Rs. 2 crore after receiving reliable intelligence.

The drugs, reportedly smuggled from a neighboring state, were discovered during a targeted search at a house in South Salmara Mankachar.

The operation, conducted by the South Salmara Police Team, uncovered the heroin hidden in the premises, believed to be part of a larger drug network operating in the region.

Authorities suspect the drugs were intended for sale in local and interstate markets. One individual has been arrested in connection with the seizure, and further investigations are underway to identify other suspects involved in the trafficking operation.

Earlier this week, Laharighat Police Station conducted a raid in Amaraguri, leading to the recovery of 11.26 grams of suspected heroin. Three individuals—Mustafa Ahmed, Mirajul Ali, and Jushnara Begum—were arrested, and legal proceedings are currently underway against them.
