DIGBOI: Assam Cabinet Minister Rupesh Gowala has lauded Digboi BJP MLA Suren Phukan for his exemplary leadership and performance, crediting him for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s significant success in the recently concluded panchayat elections in the 84 Digboi Assembly Constituency. Speaking at a felicitation programme held at Tingrai Community Auditorium Hall in Tinsukia district on Saturday afternoon, Gowala emphasized that the people have “adequately rewarded” Phukan’s dedicated service over the years.
Gowala highlighted that the overall performance of Tinsukia district in the panchayat polls was not only satisfactory but also saw increased public participation, reflecting the growing support for BJP. Addressing BJP workers, ZPC members, Anchalik members, and BJP-backed ward representatives, he praised Phukan for his contributions towards infrastructural development, healthcare, education, and improving overall quality of life in the constituency.
“Phukan has been instrumental in spearheading a range of development initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, education, and ease of living through improved road connectivity,” said minister Gowala. He further stated that Phukan’s dedication and commitment over his nine-year term have been duly recognized by the people through their votes in the panchayat election.
Emphasizing the growing trust of the people in both the Assam state government and the central leadership of the BJP, Gowala remarked, “The ball is in our court now to form a robust panchayat body without any internal disputes and dedicate ourselves to public service.” Gowala, who also serves as the MLA from Doomdoma, stressed the importance of continuing the momentum.
BJP State Secretary Pullok Gohain also spoke at the event, urging all elected representatives to maintain consistency and aim to replicate the same success in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. He called for unity, discipline, and adherence to party values among workers. Gohain also underscored the significance of the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and the Tiranga March scheduled for Sunday across the country.
Local MLA Suren Phukan, while expressing his gratitude to party leaders and grassroots workers, made a strong commitment to public welfare. He assured that no panchayat office bearers would be allowed to demand money for issuing local man certificates, affirming that such certificates would be provided free of cost to the public.
“There is not a single broken bridge or dilapidated road in the Digboi constituency,” Phukan declared confidently. He stated that over 750 roads have been upgraded under his leadership, contributing significantly to the ease of living for residents. The legislator also pledged to secure a record victory for the BJP in the 2026 assembly elections, aiming for a winning margin of around 40,000 votes—significantly higher than the 14,000-vote margin in the 2014 elections.
