MORIGAON: A joint enforcement drive was carried out on Tuesday in Morigaon by the Circle Officer, Executive Officer of Morigaon Municipal Board, District Transport Officer, and local police. The drive targeted violations of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the District Commissioner on November 15, 2024, regarding the movement and parking of commercial vehicles. Challans were issued to several commercial vehicles found parked dangerously along the highways, posing significant risks to public safety. Authorities believe the operation will serve as a deterrent, with more such drives planned in the near future.

It may be noted that on November 15, 2024, the Morigaon district administration issued a comprehensive SOP for the regulation of commercial vehicles and various types of rickshaws. According to this SOP, designated parking and operating zones were allotted outside key junctions such as Ghankanta Baruah College Chariali (Morigaon-Jagiroad Road), Gurukul, and MB Park Chariali (Morigaon-Nagaon Road), MB Road, Lothabari Bishnu Mandir Chariali, and Morigaon Damal Path, and Usha Chariali. Entry of vehicles such as buses, tempos, travellers, and magic vans into the inner parts of Morigaon town from these locations was strictly prohibited. Similarly, the movement of e-rickshaws, e-carts, and single-battery rickshaws was also restricted on the main road and at certain locations within Morigaon town.

The administration has once again urged the drivers and operators of commercial and electric vehicles to strictly adhere to the SOP. These steps are vital to maintaining public safety and traffic order in Morigaon town.
