NAGAON: A special programme was organized today at the Kamaladevi Todi Bhawan, the Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha to commemorate the late Bhadreswar Rajkhuwa, a noted Assamese storyteller and literary figure from the Ramdhenu era. The programme was presided over by Dr Sarat Borkatoki, President of the Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha while Rajib Kr Hazarika, Secretary of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, mentored the entire programme.
In his welcome address, Hojai District Commissioner and Rajkhuwa’s son-in-law Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati spoke about Rajkhuwa’s life and literary contributions. Bhagwati said that Rajkhuwa’s life was a reflection of his simplicity and humility. Despite being from a wealthy family, Rajkhuwa lived a simple life and was known for his friendly nature. Bhagwati also highlighted Rajkhuwa’s literary achievements, saying that his writings reflected the lives of ordinary people and their struggles.
The programme also saw the unveiling of a book titled ‘Jetuka Patar Dore,’ a collection of tributes to Rajkhuwa edited by Assamese scribe Pranjal Bordoloi. The book was unveiled by noted children’s writer Trailokya Bhattacharya. In his speech, Bhattacharya spoke about Rajkhuwa’s literary contributions, saying that his writings were heart-touching and reflected the beauty of rural life. He also emphasized the importance of understanding children’s psychology in writing children’s literature.
Dr Sarat Borkatoki, in his presidential address, said that Rajkhuwa’s stories reflected the lives of rural people and their struggles. He also highlighted Rajkhuwa’s ability to portray the beauty of rural life in his writings.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including Premeswar Das, President of Shrimanta Sankar Mission, Rewat Kumar Hazarika, Secretary of the Assam Sahitya Sabha’s Nagaon regional office, and Krishna Sarma, a friend of Rajkhowa. The commemorative programme began with a prayer song and a tribute to Rajkhowa, and concluded with a song by artiste Gambhir Nath.
