Assam: Nrityangan celebrates Vasant Utsav in Dhubri

It is the sixth year that Vasant Utsav was celebrated with the Shri Radha-Krishna Dol Yatra by Nrityangan, a socio-cultural group of Dhubri at Rajiv Gandhi Children’s Park.

DHUBRI : It is the sixth year that Vasant Utsav was celebrated with the Shri Radha-Krishna Dol Yatra by Nrityangan, a socio-cultural group of Dhubri at Rajiv Gandhi Children’s Park here on Friday.

A day before the event, renowned painter Arjun Sharma and his son Gautam Sharma created a beautiful alpana (a painting by colour) on the main street of Dhubri for the long cultural procession.

The idol of Shri Radha-Krishna was worshipped at the Kalibari premises of Dhubri before the start of the event. The main attraction of the procession was the Shrikhol players who came from far and wide.

Famous dancers Erika Ingrid Nandi, Moumita Sengupta, Pushpita Chakraborty and their students were also present on the occasion. The procession also includes dance groups from various communities and a Kirtan group of the Gaudiya.

Singers sang Rabindra Sangeet in the middle of the procession. People from Marwari and Bhojpuri community participated in the procession. Beside these, students of Nrityangan also played a special role.

The procession crossed the main streets of Dhubri town and culminated at the venue. The main program started with the special guests garlanding and lighting the lamp in front of the statue of Shri Radha-Krishna. The purpose of the programme was explained by Dr. Pratima Niyogi, President of Nrityangan followed by welcome ceremony while it was organized by social activist, Dipankar Majumdar.
