DHEKIAJULI: The seven-day Annual Special Camp organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das (LOKD) College came to a remarkable conclusion today, showcasing a week-long series of impactful community-driven initiatives.
The camp was inaugurated on April 4 and saw active participation from a large number of NSS volunteers committed to social development and grassroots engagement. The camp was hosted at Upar Bogoribari village, with activities aimed at education, sanitation, health, and environmental awareness.
On April 5, the volunteers conducted educational sessions for the students of Upar Bogoribari Primary School, bringing a spark of curiosity and learning to young minds. The following day, April 6, saw a vigorous cleanliness drive conducted by the volunteers, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and community responsibility.
One of the key highlights of the camp was a socio-educational survey held on April 7, targeting individuals aged 15 to 29 who are outside the formal education system. The objective was to identify barriers to education and explore potential remedial measures.
April 8 was marked by a tree plantation drive, where volunteers along with faculty members planted saplings in and around the village, reinforcing the NSS commitment to environmental sustainability. A comprehensive health camp was organized on April 9, offering basic medical checkups and health awareness to the local population.
The camp concluded with a grand valedictory function on April 10, attended by dignitaries and well-wishers. Dr Sukdev Adhikari, Principal of LOKD College, graced the event as chief guest and commended the efforts of the NSS team in fostering real world change. Dr Ashwini Kumar Deka, Professor of Rangapara College, attended as an invited guest and lauded the volunteers’ dedication to community service.
The programme also featured a heartfelt musical performance by Haricharan Basumatary, Headmaster of Upar Bogoribari Primary School, adding a cultural touch to the ceremony. Notably, former NSS Programme Officer Prashanta Boro and Professor Manoranjan Baruah were present, reflecting on the evolving role of youth in nation-building.
The camp was a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives and reinforced the spirit of service, responsibility, and leadership among the volunteers leaving a lasting impact on the community and participants alike.
