DIBRUGARH: In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Assam, Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for the supply of modern urological surgery equipment under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The MoU was signed by Madhurjya Barua, Executive Director (HR&FA), OIL, and Prof (Dr) Achyut Chandra Baishya, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, GMCH, in the presence of other officials from OIL and GMCH.

Through this initiative, OIL will provide state-of-the-art Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) technology, which is a ground-breaking advancement in urological surgery. The TFL system will be instrumental in improving the treatment of urinary stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and bladder tumours.

Compared to conventional Holmium:YAG lasers, TFLs offer superior stone fragmentation, dusting, and ablation capabilities, ensuring more efficient and minimally invasive treatments with reduced operating times. This partnership underscores OIL’s commitment to community welfare and aligns with India’s development priorities focused on enhancing healthcare and reducing inequalities.

It is also in line with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Government of India’s emphasis on promoting ‘Health and Nutrition.’

The supply of modern urological surgery equipment at GMCH is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services in the region, particularly in the field of urology, thereby improving the quality of medical care and making it more accessible to the people of Assam. This initiative is a crucial step in addressing the healthcare needs of the community, ensuring better patient outcomes through cutting-edge medical technology.

This MoU reaffirms OIL’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its mission to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector, benefiting communities and fostering medical advancements in Assam and beyond.
