Assam: Orientation programme on POCSO Act held in Biswanath

BISWANATH CHARIALI: A day-long district-level orientation programme on POCSO Act was organized by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Sonitpur on Thursday in the institute premises under the joint leadership of Manisha Baishya and Kabita Hazarika, lecturers of DIET, Sonitpur. About 70 numbers of Block Resource Persons (BRP)s and Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCC)s of Biswanath district attended the Orientation Programme. Samirjyoti Borah, Principal, inaugurated the programme and delivered his inaugural speech while Kabita Hazarika, the Coordinator of the programme, delivered the welcome speech illustrating the objectives of the training programme.

Rashmi Rekha Das, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Mouchumi Borthakur, Special Public Prosecutor for POCSO, the invited speakers, highlighted the legal provisions related to the Protection of Children from Sexual OffencesAct (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012). Both of them focused that a mass awareness must be there on such types of legal provisions to reduce crimes from our society.

Coordinator Manisha Baishya conducted an activity among the participants and asked them to recollect memories of their childhood days which had a long lasting impact on them. The participants actively participated in the session and shared incidents from their life.

Manashri Borah, Lecturer of DIET Sonitpur, conducted an elaborative session on ‘Child Abuse and Early Mariage: the Role of Teachers.’ She enlightened the participants with various types of child abuse and consequences of early marriage and interacted with the participants to develop some practical strategies to reduce such type of happenings.

The programme was attended by Dilip Sharma, Senior Lecturer, Indrani Dutta, and others. The entire programme was hosted by Kabita Hazarika. It ended with a report presentation and feedback from the participants and a vote of thanks by Manisha Baishya.
