MANGALDAI: The Panchayat polls were held peacefully in Darrang district in the final phase, along with twelve other districts of the state. Elections were conducted across a total of 788 polling booths under three assembly segments — Sipajhar, Mangaldai, and Dalgaon — where 6,56,993 voters are set to decide the political fate of 2,105 candidates contesting for 10 Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats, 64 Anchalik Panchayat (AP) member seats, and 651 Gaon Panchayat (GP) ward member seats.

BJP candidates have already won unopposed in two ZP seats out of the total 12. Similarly, 11 AP member seats out of 75, and 99 GP member seats out of 750, were also won uncontested.

According to data available with the Darrang administration at the time of filing this report at 6:30 pm, Sipajhar LAC recorded a 60% voter turnout, followed by Mangaldai LAC with 55%, and Dalgaon LAC with 48%. However, these figures are expected to rise as many voters were still in queue at several polling booths beyond the official closing time of 4:30 pm.

No untoward incidents were reported during the polling. Darrang Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kr Sarma and Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal thanked the electorate for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections.
