PATHSALA: Amid growing concerns over a spike in road accidents caused by reckless driving and overspeeding, residents of Pathsala have called for the immediate installation of Speed Display Boards equipped with automatic fine detection systems along the Indo-Bhutan road and National Highway 27 (NH-27).
The demand follows a series of recent accidents, many of which have been linked to vehicles exceeding speed limits. Local commuters and residents have described the current traffic situation as “alarming” and are urging authorities to implement stricter monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
“These highways witness heavy traffic every day. Without proper speed regulation, the lives of pedestrians and daily commuters are constantly at risk,” said a concerned local resident. He stressed the need for modern speed detection systems that can automatically record speeding vehicles and issue penalties without manual intervention.
The proposed Speed Display Boards would not only show real-time vehicle speeds but also support law enforcement by collecting data and automatically fining violators. Similar systems have already been implemented successfully in various urban centres, where they have significantly contributed to reducing road accidents.
