
GUWAHATI: On Thursday 24 February, the traffic police in the GS road of Guwahati were seen stopping an ambulance in an emergency during a mock drill ahead of the President's visit to the city today.
The driver of the ambulance was repeatedly pleading infront of the traffic police to let the ambulance pass but he was not allowed to pass by.
On Thursday traffic advisory was issued which mentioned that ambulances or any other vehicle with patients will be given priority in traffic during President Ram Nath Kovind's visit.
The traffic personnel on Thursday evening have violated clear instructions not to stop any medical emergency vehicles in traffic conditions.
However, the Guwahati police later tweeted informing that action has been taken against the erring personnel who stopped the passing ambulance in GS road of Guwahati at the time of the mock drill.
According to traffic instruction, traffic police can never stop vehicles with medical emergencies in fact the direction are provided to facilitate anyone who is in need.
Notably, India's President Ram Nath Kovind will be visiting the state on Friday 25 February and at around 5:30 pm he will do the inauguration of the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom legend Lachit Borphukan in Guwahati's Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
The President will be completing many other important works and will be visiting different parts of the state throughout his 3 day-long visits.
On Saturday26 February, he will visit Tezpur to take part in the convocation programme of Tezpur University and will be visiting the Kaziranga National Park. During his 3 day stay in Assam, the President will also lay the foundation stone of Lachit Borphukan in the Jorhat town.
Meanwhile, Guwahati is all set to welcome the President as the city has been decked up with lights and colourful flags and security has been strengthened.
