Assam: Polling officer dies of heart attack in Silchar

SILCHAR: In a tragic incident, Nurul Haque Chowdhury, 55, a polling officer died of a massive cardiac attack at his own residence just before he was about to depart for the ISBT to collect the polling materials. Chowdhury, a Rural Health Inspector, was deputed as the polling officer at Nagdirgram booth in Sonai. On Thursday early morning, as he was preparing to leave for the strong room at ISBT, Chowdhury complained of chest pain and suddenly collapsed on the ground. He was immediately rushed to a health centre where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, other polling officers and staff of Cachar collected vote materials from the strong room peacefully. Three districts of the Barak Valley go to the first phase of the Panchayat election to be held on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav said that polling staff for 505 booths in Katigorah and Dholai had already reached their assigned centres yesterday. Simultaneously, polling staff collected materials from the Lakhipur co-district on Wednesday. SP Numol Mahatta said that proper security arrangements had been done meticulously and no untoward incident was reported.
