SIVASAGAR: In a solemn ceremony held at the Boarding Field in Sivasagar today, eminent linguist and literary scholar Dr Nahendra Padun was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mising Agom Kebang. Assam Education Minister and guardian minister of Sivasagar district Dr Ranoj Pegu presented the award in recognition of Padun’s lifelong contributions to Mising language and literature.

The event coincided with Padun’s 85th birthday, which was celebrated by cutting a cake in his honour. Additionally, a felicitation book highlighting his life and work was unveiled during the programme.

Upon receiving the award, Dr Nahendra Padun expressed deep gratitude, calling it a rare honour. “I am overwhelmed by this recognition. I feel I have received far more than I have contributed. This is a debt I can never repay, and therefore, I pledge to continue working for the betterment of society throughout my life,” he said.

Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu emphasized Padun’s crucial role in modernizing the Mising language. “Nahendra Padun and Taburam Taid were instrumental in establishing the Mising Agom Kebang from the Mising Xahitya Xabha. Their efforts gave the Mising language a structured, written form. Honouring Dr Padun today is a moment of great joy,” he remarked.

The event also featured a series of cultural and literary programmes celebrating Padun’s contributions.
