Assam reports 6 more COVID-19 deaths; total 76

Guwahati: Six more precious lives have been lost in Assam due to the COVID-19 virus on Friday, July 24, informed the state's health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Among these 6 casualties, 2 were reported from Karimhganj, 3 from Kamrup (M), and a single one from the Nalabri district of Lower Assam.

"Six more COVID patients, Sri Abdul Halim Laskar (75) and Smt Alekjan Bibi (55) from Karimganj; Sri Sarafuddin Ahmed (54) from Nalbari; Smt Parvati Das (85), Sri Prafulla Sharma (60) and Sri Saroj Kr Majumdar (78) from Kamrup Metro succumbed to their infections today", the heath minister informed via a tweet.

Although the COVID-19 cases continue to rise at a steady and alarming rate across Assam, the recoveries have also started rising at a rapid rate, and the number of discharged COVID-19 patients crossed the 20,000-mark yesterday. Yesterday alone, 1,349 patients were discharged after recovering from the respiratory illness.

"In moments like these, such information - we crossed 20,000 cured patients mark - bring cheers. Also for the second day in a row, our discharge figures on July 23 are higher than new cases. Kudos to all who made this possible", Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a tweet, expressing his satisfaction.
