Assam: Seven Apprehended in Suspected Moral Policing Case After Fatal Beating in Goalpara

GUWAHATI: In Assam's Goalpara district, at least seven individuals have been apprehended on Wednesday in connection with a suspected case of moral policing that resulted in a tragic and fatal incident. According to sources, the accused allegedly beat a man to death in the Solmari area on Monday night, suspecting him of being a thief. The following morning, the police discovered the victim's body.

The deceased man's wife reported that her husband had gone to a local shop at night to buy groceries but never returned. The police found his body the next morning, raising suspicions about the circumstances of his death.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Putul Das, Prakash Rabha, Ramprasad Das, Rupjyoti Rabha, Upajit Rabha, Swapan Rabha, and Ratul Biswas. Further investigations into the case are ongoing.

In another distressing incident of moral policing, a heartbreaking incident unfolded in Guwahati's Hengrabari locality. A minor was allegedly tied to a pole and mercilessly beaten by a mob, accusing him of theft. Shockingly, the child endured the abuse for nearly two hours, while no one came forward to help him. Many individuals expressed their displeasure at the incident, particularly concerning the lack of intervention by bystanders and the failure to report the incident to the police.
