Assam: Sivasagar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan kicks off

SIVASAGAR: The 28th edition of the Sivasagar Sanmilita Rongali Bihu Sanmilan commenced on Thursday with a vibrant three-day programme at the Boarding Field in the heart of Sivasagar town. The celebrations began with the flag hoisting ceremony led by Organizing Committee President Manoj Bhagawati. Following this, a minute of silence was observed to pay tribute to the civilians who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

The Smriti Tarpan was inaugurated by Sivasagar Municipal Board Chairperson Mrinalee Konwar, while Chief Advisor Punaram Mili initiated the Swahid Tarpan ceremony.

As a part of the inaugural day’s programme, 28 individuals from various walks of life were felicitated for their exceptional contributions to the district. The event was coordinated by the Sanmilan’s General Secretary Sarat Hazarika.

At 11:30am, the Inter-School Husori Bihu Competition was inaugurated by Inspector of Schools Devajyoti Gogoi, with participation from 40 school teams from across the district. The afternoon saw an All-Assam Mou Kuwori Competition, followed by a Xoru Bihuwati Competition, drawing large audiences.

Friday’s schedule will include an All-Assam Quiz Competition at 11 AM, followed by another round of the Inter-School Husori Bihu contest. In the evening, starting at 4:30 PM, an All-Assam Jeng Bihu Competition will take place and from 6 PM onwards, the All-Assam Bor Bihuwati Competition will be held and the invited Husori teams will perform.
