TEZPUR: As a part of a follow-up operation, Sonitpur Police conducted extensive searches at multiple suspected hideouts of the arrested accused, Rafiq Ali of Muslim Chapori yesterday.
A police team led by Additional SP (Crime) Mousumi Kalita searched three to four locations, aiming to uncover any hidden illegal weapons or evidence linked to ongoing investigations. At approximately 11:30pm, the team successfully recovered a 12-bore SBBL hammerless knockabout rifle, four live rounds of ammunition, and two empty cartridges from a paddy field belonging to the accused Rafiq Ali.
The firearm and ammunition were seized in accordance with legal procedures, ensuring that proper documentation and forensic analysis could be carried out. Authorities are now focusing on tracing the origin of the recovered weapon and determining any potential connections to criminal activities in the region. The investigation remains ongoing, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings, a police official said.
