Assam: South Assam Film Festival begins in Silchar

SILCHAR: The 3rd South Assam Film Festival was inaugurated here on Friday by Bengali cine stars Paoli Dam, Rahul Banerjee, Hrishi Kaushik, and others at Banga Bhawan. The third edition of the film festival would showcase a number of recent popular Bengali films like ‘Chhad’ and ‘Durgapur Junction’. Apart from these full length feature films, a good number of documentaries and short films would also cater to the audience. Sarmistha Deb, a film director hailing from the Barak Valley and the key person of ‘ Club Icchhedana,’ the organizer of the festival, said that popular Assamese actress Nishita Goswami who had acted in her new venture ‘Titli Cottage’ would also attend the two-day film festival. This year, the ‘Iconic Award’ would be presented to Hrishi Kaushik, a popular actor in the Bengali film industry. Sarmistha Deb, a journalist-turned-film director had in recent years made a number of feature films in Kolkata.
