BISWANATH CHARIALI: An awareness programme for the heads of the government, provincialized and private educational institutions including high schools, higher and senior secondary schools and colleges affiliated to Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) under Biswanath district was held on Saturday at Biswanath College, here. The programme was held under the aegis of Assam State School Education Board, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Inspectorate of Schools, Sonitpur District Circle, and Biswanath College regarding various pressing aspects related to academics and examinations. Dr Chintamani Sarmah, Principal, Biswanath College, delivered the welcome address in the programme.

Vice-Chairman of Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) Rukma Gohain Baruah was present in the programme as the key resource person. Addressing the gathering, Gohain Baruah talked about the mission and the vision of the Board that it is to provide quality education, to promote holistic development, and to ensure that every student had access to compulsory quality education. Its mission also includes reinforcing the national character of education and improving school education standards which involves universalizing secondary education, promoting social justice through education, and fostering partnerships between different levels of government and community stakeholders. He dwelt at length about the various aspects of the courses including vocational ones offered by ASSEB and also the examination system.

Stressing about holding the examinations free and fair, he called upon the heads of the educational institutions to take utmost care for holding the final examinations in 2026 smoothly.  He offered a number suggestions to the in-charges of the examination centres including not to delay in collection of question papers from the respective police stations on the day of examination with proper verification of subject and quantity etc., staking of sealed cartoons of question papers in order, not to dispatch of answer scripts to non-allotted zones etc. In no circumstances, a candidate is to be allowed to appear in a subject without having the subject mentioned in the admit card and attendance sheet, he added. In this case, proper training of invigilators is highly required.

It was observed that in some of the examination centres, the subject teachers of the concerned subject for which examination was going on were engaged in collecting attendance of candidates or any other examination-related technical works. Such Practices should be avoided and will be treated as disobedience of instructions, Gohain Baruah warned.

A career guidance session was also held on the occasion by the representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Ankit Paul.

The programme was conducted by Prabhat Das, Inspector of Schools, and Bedabrat Borah, Regional Secretary of ASSEB, Biswanath, in which around 186 educational institutions across Biswanath district participated.
