TANGLA: Tangla College, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in present Udalguri district and undivided Darrang district, will host its Golden Jubilee with a grand six-day event from February 1 to 6. Established in 1970, the college has been a beacon of higher education in Arts, Commerce, Science, and Computer Science (BCA) for over five decades. The open session of the Golden Jubilee Celebration will be graced by eminent dignitaries, including Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker cum Paneri MLA Biswajit Daimari, BTC Chief Executive Member Promod Boro, Cabinet Ministers Dr Ranoj Pegu and  Pijush Hazarika, among others. The six-day program will feature a wide array of activities, including cultural procession with participation from local artistes and students followed by various literary competitions, and sports events such as marathon, kabaddi, volleyball, and football. A book fair and exhibition showcasing literary works and achievements will also be exhibited. The cultural night will feature performances by renowned artists, including Indian Idol fame Pawandeep Rajan and Ritu Pathak.

Principal of Tangla College Dr Prasen Daimari as well as the Chief Secretary of the reception committee expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders and exhorted everyone to be part of the historic moment.  Pertinently, the college was established under the initiative of the dauntless trio, former Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP Late Hiralal Patowary, former State Home Minister Late Ramesh Ch Saharia, former Home Minister Government of Assam and Late Upendra Nath Bora along with the efforts of the various stakeholders of society. The college was shaped under the leadership of the first Principal Dr Tara Charan Rastogi. The institution has several noted alumni including former Parliamentarian Madhab Rajbongshi and retired IAS and Former Accountant General of Assam Pinuel Basumatary. The college also holds the pride of being home to two recipients of Sahitya Academy Award among the faculty members, Dr Arupa Patangia Kalita, former faculty of English Department and Dr Rita Boro of Bodo Department.
