Assam: Tinsukia Police Arrest Two Drug Smugglers and Local Peddler, Seize Heroin Shipment

TINSUKIA: Tinsukia police have succeeded in their mission against drug smuggling by arresting two smugglers and a local peddler on Friday. An operation led to the seizure of a large consignment of heroin being smuggled from Nagaland into Assam.

The prime accused, Bitu Gohain and Natey Ekka, were arrested at an eatery near the New Tinsukia Railway Station shortly after they arrived on the Avadh Assam Express from Dimapur at 12:10 PM.

The operation was carried out based on solid intelligence and was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tinsukia Nishant Saurabh, who coordinated a large police contingent for the task. After their arrest, officers recovered four plastic bags containing heroin from the suspects' possession.

Thereafter, the police followed up with an operation on Dohutia Chuk in Tinsukia town and arrested one, named Biki Bora, a local peddler, in whose possession the banned substances were found.

The accused have been charged under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988. The investigation was further deepened for more information on the drug trafficking network involved in this operation. Successful interception of the heroin consignment also manifests the continued endeavors of law enforcement agencies to curb drug-related crimes in that region.
