It could neither create public opinion nor prioritize the events concerning public issues,” said Dr JP Chaliha, renowned educationist and critic while addressing mediapersons and guests at the midterm convention of Tinsukia Press Club at the press club premises today.

Held with Kamal Talukdar, President Tinsukia Press Club, in the chair, the event witnessed felicitation to former members of the press club, open session, etc. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr Madan Sarma, former VC i/c Tezpur University, Kajal Gohain, Chairman TDA, Phatik Neog, writer, Bidhan Das, social worker, Pranab Baruah (Nitu), former Chairman TDA.

Urging the journalists, Kajal Gohain said that the journalists need to change the language of expression, keeping in view the changing scenario of socio-political setup. Journalists should not criticize directly as it often invites bitterness but instead should use tactical language that carries the same views.

Chinmoy Sarma, Secretary of Tinsukia Press Club, welcomed the guests and members of the media fraternity representing the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association. Earlier in the morning, the programme began with the hoisting of flag by Kamal Talukdar and Smriti Tarpan by Chinmoy Sarma.
