Biswanath Charilai: Amid the Bhogali Bihu celebration, two people were killed and several others including a woman and a six-year-old child injured in a wild water buffalo attack in two villages of Biswanath, Assam.

Reportedly, Jayanta Das of Kali Matak village and Sukur Ali of Komalia village died after being attacked by the wild water buffalo. 

Sukur Ali had died on the spot after the wild buffalo attack him on Friday morning while Jayanta Das was trampled to death by the same buffalo who strayed out from the sixth addition to Kaziranga National park on Thursday.

Notably, the incident has created a panic situation among the villagers of Komalia.

Speaking to media, brother of the deceased said," Sukur Ali was attacked by the wild buffalo in the morning while he was trying to come back to his room from the washroom. The same buffalo had killed a man in Kali Matak village on Thursday noon."

The forest officials and police personnel have reached the spot after the locals informed them about the incident and also stated that the officials were forced to kill the buffalo in self-defense.

A forest official said, "We always try to save animals, but the situation was tensed and out of control, hence had to kill the buffalo in self-defense." He further stated that the villagers are very angry about the unfortunate incident that they have also tried to attack them.

The buffalo has also attacked three more people including a 6-year-old child and a woman of the village. The woman was taken to the nearby civil hospital in said to be in a critical condition, leaving two other injured.

The deaths triggered anger among the villagers and an angry mob vandalised the forest department office and set the office and a forest department vehicle on fire.

Sukur Ali was a daily wage worker, who left behind four daughters. Now the residence of his native place is worrying about his family, as he was the sole bread earner of the family.

The villagers demanded the government to give a compensation of Rs. 20 lakhs each to the families of both the deceased.
