Assam: Two Youths Drown In Pond In Bongaigaon District

Bongaigaon: Two youths lost their lives after they drowned in a pond in the Jogighopa area in Assam's Bongaigaon district here on Friday.

As per reports, the incident took place when the duo had gone for a bath in the pond and unfortunately they strayed away far from the bank of the pond and drowned.

Both the youths have been as Umacharan Das and Kalyan Das.

Upon receiving the information of the same, the local police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Later the bodies were sent for postmortem.

On Thursday, a small boat carrying 50 students of Khodarchar and Sonaram Patamari High School capsized when it hit a side timber pole in the River Brahmaputra at Howrarpar under Dhubri police station of Dhubri district.

All the 50 students who had fallen in the river were, however, rescued by the villagers from drowning and brought to a safer place. But two students who are suspected to have swallowed water were shifted to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, a local villager informed.

Villagers of Howrarpar alleged that neither the team of SDRF nor police visited the spot of the incident even after an hour.

On August 9 too, the two women who lost their lives were missing after a boat capsized in the Ghiladhari river in Assam's Biswanath district.

The deceased were been identified as Deepanjali Keot and Jyoti Sahu.

As per reports, the incident took place in the Mukhgarh area in the Biswanath district on Monday when six women who had gone to the other side for cultivation works were returning back on a boat that capsized in the river.

The locals rescued four of six women, but these two women were missing and later found dead.

Following the incident, search and rescue operations were launched to find the missing women. State Disaster Response Force was also pressed into action to locate the missing women.

Later, the rescued four women were rushed to a hospital for better treatment.
