BOKAKHAT: One of the most popular traditional games of ancient Assam was Kori Khel (Kori Game). This game has been traditionally played in the revenue village of Goria Borpathar, which falls under the Mohura Mouza of Bokakhat subdivision. Although there is no accurate information about exactly how many years ago the game was introduced in the village, it has been played there for generations. Recently, as the game faces the threat of extinction, the villagers have continued their efforts to revive and sustain it.
According to sources, the game is organized in the village every alternate year. From the beginning of the month of Chot (March-April) until the celebration of Rongali Bihu, enthusiastic players start the game at their respective homes on a rotational basis. The game can accommodate a maximum of four teams with up to 20 players in total.
This nearly extinct game is being kept alive today by the passionate youth of the village, who have learned the rules and techniques from their elders and continue to play and preserve the tradition.
