MANKACHAR: In a major anti-narcotics raid on Sunday evening, Assam Police seized 8,000 Yaba tablets worth about Rs. 2 crore. The raid was conducted in the South Salmara Mankachar district near the Indo-Bangladesh border, resulting in the arrest of two persons.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team conducted a raid in Shotimari-II, under the jurisdiction of the Mankachar police station.
Authorities reported that the Yaba tablets, which had been smuggled from a neighboring state, were intended for illegal trafficking into Bangladesh, with plans to throw them over the border fence.
The tablets were found hidden in a pile of betel nut sacks in a residential house. The arrested suspects, identified as Sakuwat Hussain and Sanowar Hussain, have been suspected to have been operating a drug trafficking business for years.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for their prompt response, highlighting the state's determination to fight drug-related crimes. The operation is an extension of a larger drive to destroy drug smuggling rings that have been active in the area.
Authorities have initiated further investigations to uncover additional individuals connected to the smuggling operation. The police are working diligently to gather more intelligence and disrupt the supply chain of illicit drugs in the area.
