GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugrated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati. He spoke about Assam’s economic and infrastructure growth at a rapid rate under the BJP government. He said the state’s economy has doubled to Rs. 6 lakh crore during BJP’s rule, crediting this success to the ‘double-engine’ government at the state and at the centre.
“Eastern India has played a crucial role in India’s development, and the Northeast will continue to showcase its immense potential. Advantage Assam will connect the entire country with the state’s growth prospects,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s strong economy, saying that even with global challenges, India’s growth is certain. He also praised Assam’s efforts to improve its economy and expressed confidence that the state will achieve its goal of becoming a $150 billion economy by 2030.
Highlighting the government's efforts in the region, PM Modi pointed out significant investments in infrastructure. “Before 2014, only three bridges existed on the Brahmaputra River, but in the last ten years, four new bridges have been built, including one named after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika Ji,” he said.
Discussing railway development, he noted that the railway budget allocation for Assam increased from an average of Rs 2,100 crore between 2009 and 2014 to Rs 10,000 crore under the BJP government.
The Prime Minister also emphasized India’s expanding global trade ties, mentioning the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and strengthening connectivity with East Asia through free trade agreements.
Recalling his 2013 visit to Assam during the election campaign, PM Modi said, “I had then predicted that the day is not far when people would read ‘A for Assam’. Today, this vision is becoming a reality.”
He credited the state's progress to a combination of institutional reforms, industrial growth, and infrastructural advancements. “Many peace accords have been signed, and long-pending border disputes have been resolved. Every citizen and youth in Assam is working tirelessly for the state's development,” he added.
