MORIGAON: The All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU) protested against the selling of lands of indigenous people of Jaluguti, Majarbori, Tukunabori, Saruchakabaha, and Baramara including the lands of the tribals of Rangdoloigaon under Mikirbheta circle office, Morigaon, to some non-Hindu families, and said that it posed a serious threat to the local inhabitants.

In this regard, a delegate team of the central committee led by ATSU President Prasanta Mosrong, Vice-President Kandarpa Hokai, General Secretary Tarun Madar, Morigaon Zilla Tribal Sangha’s Vice-President Mun Bordoloi, and General Secretary Jiten Patar paid a visit to the said places on Tuesday and expressed displeasure over the condition of the areas.

The organizations in a statement said that some land mafias had been allegedly taking high monetary values for selling lands of local inhabitants to unidentified, suspicious, and non-Hindu families in the said areas which had deteriorated the entire Mikirbheta revenue circle. The organizations also alleged that the land mafias had been buying lands from the local general people at minimum prices and selling them to non-locals at high prices due to which a village had been built by the latter.

The organizations said that although the local people informed the Morigaon MLA about the incidents, he turned a deaf ear to their appeals. The organizations also disclosed that a land mafia named Sahjahan Ali, son of Late Adhan Ali was actively involved in the whole incident.

Sahjahan Ali was arrested by the police but later granted bail and released after a week. After his release, the accused land mafia allegedly got back to selling lands of the local indigenous people under Mikirbheta circle. The organizations have demanded the Chief Minister of Assam and the Superintendent of Police to arrest Sahjahan Ali immediately and save the lands of local inhabitants.
