AXX to launch global birth centenary celebrations of Dr Bhupen Hazarika

TEZPUR: Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) announced elaborate plans to commemorate the yearlong birth centenary of Bharat Ratna and Biswa Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, eminent artiste, lyricist, composer, singer, writer, and former President of AXX. The celebrations, set to begin on September 8, will be marked by daylong literary and cultural programmes across Assam and abroad.

The decision was finalized at the Xabha’s second plenary executive session held on July 6 at Dhaligaon, Chirang district. As per the resolution, the inaugural events will be observed simultaneously by all district and branch units of the Xabha, including its overseas branches in Russia, Kuwait, North America, Great Britain, London, and other locations.

To mark the occasion, district and branch units have been asked to host performances of Dr Hazarika’s iconic songs and speeches, research-driven discussions, competitions among students and various cultural activities. AXX Principal Secretary Debojit Bora appealed to the district units to centrally coordinate and supervise the branch-level programmes to ensure a unified observance.

The central inaugural ceremony will be organized at the auditorium of the Pragatisheel Janamancha in Kalaigaon, Udalguri district, under the initiative of the Shree Shree Gobinda Mishra Branch of the Xabha. Scheduled for September 8 and September 9, the two-day programme will feature multiple competitions and an open session beginning at 1:00 PM on the opening day, highlighting the life and legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika through presentations by scholars and researchers.

In an official press release from AXX, Principal Secretary of the Xabha Debojit Bora stated that, in addition to the inaugural programme on September 8, every district and branch units would be required to organize at least one mid-year event and a concluding programme, ensuring a yearlong observance of Dr Hazarika’s birth centenary across the state and beyond.
