LAKHIMPUR: Shivarani Kalita, the best actress title winner of Ottawa Indian Film Festival 2021, on Friday arrived at her home at Mornoi village under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district. As soon as she arrived at home, the members of the Subansiri regional committee of the Chutia Jati Mahila Sanmilan, led by Kalpana Senapati Baruah, accorded the actress warm felicitation with phoolam gamosa, bouquet of flowers.

It is notable here that 22 year old Shivarani grabbed the best actress award in the Ottawa Indian Film Festival-2021 in Canada for her outstanding performance in the lead role of the Assamese film 'Bridge', directed by Kripal Kalita. The movie was also selected in the Indian Panorama category for the 51st International Film Festival of India. The film has been internationally acclaimed and also been selected for screening in the South-East Film Festival to be held in the USA and Light of Film Festival, Pinewood Studio to be held in London. The movie narrates a true story of a struggling woman in rural Assam residing on the bank of a Brahmaputra tributary. The story is based on an incident that took place during the flood. It reflects the havoc and tremendous devastation caused by floods and the invincible optimism of the flood victims against the destruction caused by the natural disaster.

Born at Baligaon village under Dhakuakhana subdivision, Shivarani works in a departmental store in North Lakhimpur. She has turned to be a icon of inspiration by achieving the honour by working for the first time in front of the camera.
