BISWANATH CHARIALI: The residents of Madhupur under Biswanath Chariali Police Station staged a protest demanding the relocation of the two foreign liquor shops, ‘Madira House Wine Shop’ and ‘Popular Wine Chop’, opened recently in the area. The residents of the said village have been protesting for a long time demanding the relocation of the two liquor shops. The villagers had already submitted several memoranda to the MLA, District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and Municipality Chairman in this regard, but to no avail, they alleged.

The residents opined that there are various socio-spiritual and cultural institutions like Anganwadi schools, Namghar, temples, Natya Samaj theaters, etc. in the vicinity of both the liquor establishments and therefore there was no need for liquor shops there.
