Biswanath District Witnesses Successful Kisan Mela with Over 500 Farmer Participants

Biswanath: The Dept of Agriculture &CSS-ATMA, Biswanath in Association with Distict Administration, Biswanath successfully organised a Kisan Mela on 6th and 7th March 2025. The event, held at the District Agriculture Office campus, witnessed an overwhelming participation of around 500 farmers from across the district.

The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by the Hon'ble DC Biswanath Shri Munindra Nath Ngatey on the first day and urged the farmers present to adopt multiple cropping and organic farming systems, seed distribution on cluster basis during his speech in the open session of the event.

The exhibition stalls were opened by the associate Dean, BNCA Shri Ranendra Nath Barman. He emphasised on the importance of multiple cropping, irrigation systems, classification of farmers on genuinity of practices during his speech.

The mela was organized with the objective of showcasing the agriculture and allied departmental products under CSS ATMA demonstrations and other commodities from different entrepreneurs.

The District Agriculture Officer cum Project Director, CSS ATMA, Shri Baneswer Bey, welcomed the farmers participated and other dignitaries from Veterinary , Fishery, Handloom & Textile, PHE , Seri Culture, FMTTI ( NER) etc. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting agricultural growth and improving the livelihoods of farmers and highlighted the achievements of various schemes being implemented under the Dept. of Agriculture, Biswanath during 24-25.

On the second day of Kisan Mela, the farmers interaction session focuses on the areas of organic & natural farming and Bio agricultural product besides the usage of modern agricultural machineries was organized wherein about 200 farmers participated from different corners of the district. The interactive session was moderated by a team of agricultural scientists from BNCA, Dr. Nikhilesh Baruah, Dr.Buddha Borah, Dr.Jayanta Kalita, Dr. Bikram Barkotoky and Assistant Agriculture engineer, Shri Ashmita Paul.

A total of 16 nos. stalls were set up for displaying the exhibits by the various departments and local entrepreneurs. After the interaction session, the prizes for best stalls and products were given to the winners.

The open session of the Kisan mela was hosted by Shri Manash Pratim Das, Senior ADO and the session on Farmers & Scientist interaction was chaired by Shri Pradip Talukdar, SDAO Biswanath and in presence of Shri Bhaskar Hazarika, Vice president of State Kisan Morcha.

The two day long program was successfully organised under the supervision of Shri Sarangapani Keot, senior ADO cum Deputy Project Director, CSS- ATMA and in cooperation of Shri Sonmoni Saikia, Senior ADO , ADO's, BTM's ATM's and other officials of District Agriculture Office, Biswanath. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Mrs.Divyashree Saikia, Program Officer, District Agriculture Office, Biswanath.
