LAKHIMPUR: The CEM (Chief Executive Member) of the BKWAC (Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council), Mihiniswar Basumatari, who is also the vice-president of the Assam State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offered his profound obeisance to the Almighty by visiting the Bathou Mandir and Shiva Mandir on the sacred occasion of the 'Guru Purnima' on Saturday.

The BKWAC CEM offered his prayers at several religious sites in Guwahati and also honoured the priests at the respective sites on the occasion. He took part in the public prayer programme at Kendriya Bathou Mandir located at Bathoupuri Ahom Gaon in the early morning.

Addressing the devotees, he said, "Guru Purnima is a tradition dedicated to all the spiritual and academic Gurus, who are evolved or enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom based on 'Karma Yoga'. It is celebrated as a festival in India by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. This festival is traditionally observed to honour one's teachers on the full-moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of 'Ashadha'. This was the day when Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, the great author of the epic 'Mahabharata', was born."

The BKWAC Chief also visited the 'Garhchuk Pamohi Bhima Sankar Mandir' in Guwahati and offered his prayers there in addition to paying obeisance to the priest.

He was accompanied by BKWAC Chairperson Gambaru Mussahari; Executive Members (EMs) Anil Basumatari, and Pradip Swargiyari; United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) vice-president Lalit Chandra Brahma, general secretary Pitambar Brahma, treasurer Bistiram Narzari, sports secretary Failao Mussahari, UBPO president of Kamrup district unit Pradip Basumatari and general secretary Sony Bodo.
