KOKRAJHAR: Executive Member (EM) of the Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Anil Basumatary, who is playing major role in the process of delimitation of constituencies and inclusion of Bodo villages in the council, hailed the government move of draft notification of constituencies of BKWAC and finalization of villages.
Talking to this reporter, Basumatary said the State Government had taken up a bold initiative to notify the constituencies and villages of BKWAC. All works of the government are going in the right direction, he said, adding that they had worked out with the government for finalizing the constituencies and villages of the council in accordance with the BKWAC Act, 2020. He also said there would be 36 constituencies in the draft notification in BKWAC and over 6,14,000 Bodo population in over 1,200 villages. He further claimed that the draft notification for constituencies and villages of BKWAC was going on simultaneously.
Basumatary said there should not be any doubt about the initiative of the government over draft notification and finalizing of villages. He appealed to all organizations not to resort to agitation over the draft notification.
The BKWAC came into being after the signing of the BTR accord in 2020 as the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) led by CEM of BKWAC, Mihiniswar Basumatary was one of its signatories. The BKWAC, which is a satellite mode of council, will work for the social, economic, language, literature and cultural development of the Bodos living outside BTR in Assam.
