KOKRAJHAR: The All India Bodo People's National League (BPNL) for Bodoland Statehood has condemned the State Government headed by Sarbananda Sonowal for denying permission to hold the 3rd special convention of the former ABSU fraternity and the Bodo Civil Society on November 8 in Kokrajhar. The national-level Bodo organizations termed it as the BJP-led Assam Government's 'political vendetta' to muzzle the constitutional and democratic rights and the fundamental freedom of the aboriginal Bodo tribal people.

BPNL for Bodoland statehood has strongly urged upon the Union Government to start the process of political dialogue and negotiations afresh on the many decades-old justified demand of the Bodo people for the creation of a separate state of Bodoland. The organization questioned as to why they were denied permission for holding special convention for 50-60 representatives although minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had been attending overcrowded election campaign meetings.

Former Lok Sabha MP and president of BPNL, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary on Monday said that the first executive meeting of the league was held on Saturday at its headquarter in Kokrajhar. The meeting expressed serious concern over the blatant denial of permission to hold the 3rd special convention of the former ABSU fraternity and the Bodo Civil Society on November 8 at Kokrajhar. He said the Government of Assam had muzzled the constitutional and democratic as well as fundamental rights and freedom of the indigenous Bodo tribal people to a large extent.

Bwiswmuthiary said the meeting had again reiterated the demand for the dire necessity of holding fresh political dialogues and negotiations on the imperative need for creation of a separate state of Bodoland with immediate effect, consequent upon the 'total failure' of the latest Bodo Accord signed on January 27, 2020. He also said that the meeting had seriously discussed the alleged diabolical speech against the Bodos delivered by State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the non-tribal people at Mazbat and Kalaigaon in Udalguri district on November 6 during his election campaign for the forthcoming general election to the BTC.
