LAKHIMPUR: Finally, the people living in greater Ghunasuti area under Lakhimpur district are about to sustain their judicious right with regard to road connectivity, which they have been deprived of since long years. For these deprived people, the bridge over Subansiri at Ghagar Ghat is no longer a distant dream right now. As an outcome of the consecutive demands raised by the people of the area, strong role of Lakhimpur media, serial agitation programmes initiated by various organizations of the district and good will of the present BJP-led alliance State Government, the bridge will be constructed very soon to rejuvenate the missing link of road connectivity through North Lakhimpur-Dhakuakhana connecting road via Ghunasuti.

It has become possible with the proposal for constructing the one kilometre-long bridge over the river Subansiri, the largest tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra, incorporated in the Assam State Budget- 2021-22, which was tabulated by Ajanta Neog, the first woman Finance Minister of the State on Friday. It will be the third bridge over the river after the RCC Bridge at Chaoldhowa along NH-15 and the RCC bridge proposed to be constructed at Dhunaguri under Bihpuriya Revenue Circle connecting Lakhimpur and Majuli districts. It is expected that the miserable plights and problems faced by the people of Ghunasuti and those who have to go to Ghunasuti from North Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhana subdivisions throughout the ages will come to an end with the completion of the construction of the bridge at Ghagar Ghat.

It is notable here that three serial reports on the eluded developmental activities, underdeveloped conditions, flood and erosion problem, poor road connectivity affecting the greater Ghunasuti area for years were published in May 30, May 31 and June 1 issues of the esteemed The Sentinel in 2019. The reports published in the May 30 and May 31 issues highlighted the massive erosion problem caused by the River Subansiri and the poor academic infrastructure and conditions of Ghunasuti area respectively. On the other hand, the third report, titled as "Bridge over Subansiri at Ghagar Ghat in Lakhimpur a distant dream", published in June 1 issue of The Sentinel described the dilapidated road communication system of Ghunasuti even during the long 72 years of the post independence period of the nation.
