BTC chief Pramod Boro inaugurates Udalguri campus of Bodoland University

KOKRAJHAR: In a historic and landmark step, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro on Wednesday ceremonially inaugurated the much-awaited Udalguri campus of Bodoland University in the presence of Deputy CEM Gobinda Chandra Basumatary, EM Dr Nilut Swargiary, Prof BL Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Subung Basumatary, Registrar of Bodoland University, ABSU president Dipen Boro, other dignitaries, academician, Principal, and senior citizens of the locality.

In his speech, CEM Boro said that an educated Bodoland was the first step to building an empowered Bodoland. He said that in line with this vision, the Government of BTR had promised to set up the Udalguri campus of the Bodoland University which had become a reality on Wednesday. He said that the operationalization of this new campus, a reflection of their resolve to build a ‘Smart Bodoland,’ would open newer and better opportunities of higher learning for students of Udalguri district and surrounding regions and contribute to the academic development of BTR.

Meanwhile, ABSU president Dipen Boro said that as per the long-standing demand of the ABSU, the Bodoland University’s Udalguri campus had been inaugurated by BTR CEM Pramod Boro which would be a centre of excellence for higher studies in Udalguri and its adjacent districts. He said that the new campus would start initially at Udalguri College and would be shifted to Dwifang with three departments- Political science, Education, and Bodo from this academic session, with guest faculties. He hoped that this new campus would fulfil the aspirations of the students in the higher education sector.

The ABSU president extended his gratitude to BTC chief Pramod Boro for extending a financial grant to start the campus and for its infrastructure development. He also thanked the Chief Minister Dr Hinanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Ranoj Pegu for approval to sanction six posts for the campus and their commitment and to Bodoland University authority and Udalguri College.

Boro, however, demanded that Udalguri College be upgraded to Udalguri University at the earliest.
