Bus catches fire inside Tinsukia ASTC bus stand; sabotage ruled out

TINSUKIA: Amid the protest by laid-off employees of ASTC, a private AC passenger bus under ASTC undertaking caught fire inside the Tinsukia ASTC bus stand at around 7.30 am on Thursday. Within moments, the fire engulfed the entire bus even before arrival of fire tenders and what remained finally were the skeleton and metal parts of the bus.

The Tezpur-bound passenger bus belonging to Moon Travel bearing number AS 12BC 9447 was about to park in the line for passengers when the incident happened. It is suspected that snag in the air conditioning system may have led to the accident. Ruling out any sabotage, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav, after visiting the spot, said it was likely an accident due to short circuit according to prima facie evidences with a forensic team examining the burnt bus.
