ORANG: Chief Election Commissioner of Assam, Ranjan Sharma, chaired a high-level review meeting on Friday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Udalguri to assess preparations for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election.
The meeting covered comprehensive discussions on administrative coordination, election logistics and security arrangements. Specific focus was given to the readiness of 957 polling stations across 10 BTC constituencies in Udalguri district, deployment of nearly 6,242 polling personnel, transportation and communication planning, establishment of control rooms, and the mobilization of flying squads.
CEC Sharma emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination and strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. He said, “Elections are the foundation of democracy, and our top priority is to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and inclusive electoral process.” He also urged all departments to work in complete cooperation until the election is concluded.
The meeting was attended by Geetartha Barua, Secretary of the Assam State Election Commission, Pulak Patgiri, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, additional deputy commissioners Sarfaraz Haque and Manojyoti Kuthum, Ringkhang Mosahari, Circle Officer of Bhergaon, and Shashi Kumar Deka, Additional Superintendent of Police (Udalguri Sadar).
Post-review, CEC Sharma expressed satisfaction over the district administration’s efforts but suggested increased focus on certain operational areas. He also reminded officials that with the Model Code of Conduct now in force, all electoral activities and administrative functions must be conducted in a disciplined and lawful manner.
