Chirang district Health department gears up to deal with coronavirus threat

Kokrajhar: In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country, the Chirang District Health Society organized an awareness-cum-media meet on COVID-19 here in the conference hall of the Bodoland Guest House on Tuesday.

“District health department is taking all precautionary measures to deal with coronavirus threat as I have already engaged our doctors and other medical staff to face any kind of eventuality in the coming day,” said Joint Director, Health Services, Chirang, Dr. Ratul Chandra Bordoloi while addressing the media on their preparedness to fight the deadly virus.

He apprised that as part of their Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities for coronavirus, till now they had completed screening more than 4,000 people who arrived here from other Sates, distributed 70,000 leaflets among the masses, erected 98 banners and 10 hoardings at public places, made wide publicity across the district, organized street plays and awareness meetings to sensitize the public.

Saying that the district medical department had geared up to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, he informed they had already identified quarantine locations and put in place 60 beds at Kajalgaon JSB Hospital and in some private hospitals and Bongaigaon Oil Refinery, Dhaligaon to be used in the event of detection of anyone with the virus.

He also informed about the coming back of 98 people from some coronavirus-affected States and the efforts being taken by them for proper medical examination for COVID-19 as per the protocol. He appealed to media and other stakeholders to support the district administration as well as the health department in augmenting preparedness by way of following health advisories strictly and to share any information gathered by them regarding coronavirus related cases with them for taking prompt action. The programme was also attended by other medical officers and staff of the health department.
