MANGALDAI: In view of the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the Darrang Medical College on September 8, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday afternoon inspected the land designated for the Darrang Medical College. During the inspection, Chief Minister Sarma stated that the small trees currently under the sericulture department at the site will be transplanted, while larger trees will be preserved.
In response to a journalist’s question about evictions, the Chief Minister said that genuine landless people had been provided land, but those who had illegally occupied hundreds of bighas of land by moving from one place to another were being evicted and would continue to be evicted.
Commenting on Rakibul Hussain and Akhil Gogoi expressing sympathy for the evicted, Himanta Biswa Sarma remarked that even if Rakibul Hussain and Akhil Gogoi cried, no tears were visible. He added that if one looked closely, Rakibul’s eyes showed no tears, and similarly, Akhil Gogoi hid his eyes while pretending to console.
On the same day on September 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Kurua-Narengi bridge and ring road. The total project cost is Rs 800 crore.
Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, legislators Basanta Das of Mangaldai, Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi of Sipajhar and Diganta Kalita of Kamalpur accompanied the CM during his visit.
The Darrang administration has already allocated 146 bighas of land for the Darrang Medical College.
