Congress Will Win Seats in Single Digit in Upcoming Assam Elections: Minister Bhabesh Kalita

Guwahati: Assam Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Irrigation Department, Bhabesh Kalita said that the alliance of Congress party and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will get around 15-17 seats in the upcoming assembly elections of Assam.

Minister Kalita said at Dimu Rangia that the Congress party has vanished. They will get seats in single digits, and their alliance with AIUDF will get 15-17 seats in total.

He further criticised the newly formed regional party, Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP). Kalita reacted to AJP's promise to provide employment to the youth of the state. He said that let AJP first form the government. Kalita reiterated the commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for maintaining the peace and progress of the state. He said that the party is committed to the development of Assam, and they do not believe in communal politics.

Earlier in December last year, Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that the Congress party and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will only win 22 seats together in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections of 2021.

Dass also said that that BJP-led alliance will win around 102-104 constituencies in the upcoming elections. Dass said that these figures are based on the survey done by the workers of their party.

He said that the party would field candidates in the upcoming elections from minority communities in seven constituencies of the state. He further said that out of the total 15 constituencies in the Barak valley, BJP will win at least 13 seats. The 15 constituencies of Barak Valley are Patharkandi, Katigorah, Dholai, Udharbond, Sonai, Silchar, Barkhola, Lakhipur, Badarpur, Algapur, Hailakandi, Katlicherra, Karimganj South, Karimganj North, and Ratabari. In the 2016 Assam legislative elections, BJP won eight seats in the Barak Valley.

On the other hand, Assam Finance, Education, Health and PWD Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies will win more than 100 seats in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2021.
