MANGALDAI: In a significant operation, Dalgaon police in Darrang district seized over Rs 40 lakh in cash during a naka checking on a passenger bus travelling from Tezpur to Guwahati. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the bus and conducted a thorough search of its passengers. During the operation, the police found one Ashok Kumar Mahanat in possession of two large bags containing the cash.

Mahanat claimed the money belonged to him and was intended for business purposes in Guwahati. However, due to the substantial amount of cash, the police informed senior officials, who promptly arrived at the scene, seized the money, and detained Mahanat for further questioning. The Income Tax Department and other relevant agencies were notified to investigate the source and legitimacy of the funds. As of the latest update, the police were awaiting the Income Tax Department’s investigation. A police spokesperson stated that detailed information would be shared with the media once the investigation was complete.
