LAKHIMPUR: The Dhakuakhana Road (DK Road) Development Committee has demanded the State Government to strengthen the old DK Road and reconstruct it to connect with the proposed Ghunasuti Bridge to be constructed over the River Subansiri. The committee has also demanded to construct the Ghunasuti Bridge connecting Mur Siga and Bamunijan, the present water route of Subansiri, which connects Ghunasuti with the main land of North Lakhimpur.
Regarding these demands, DK Road Development Committee has already submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of the Lakhimpur district.
The old DK Road is a road in Lakhimpur district having historical importance. The people living in North Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhana subdivisions of the district have keen desire to keep the colourful history of the road alive and to take it to the future.
On the other hand, the DK Road Development Committee held a crucial meeting with a number of leading organizations of the State like All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), Bane Kebang, MMK, Veer Lachit Sena, All Koch Rajbonshi Students' Union, Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani, Kaivarta Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Sachetan Nagarik Mancha etc. on Wednesday regarding the construction of the DK Road and the Ghunasuti Bridge. The meeting was held at the conference hall of the North Lakhimpur Press Club under the chairmanship of the committee president, Uday Sankar Hazarika.
In the meeting, Nitya Mili, Dhanmaoni Dutta, Sudipta Hazarika, Sailen Panging, Bishnu Dutta, Kumud Baruah and many other speakers delivered speeches thanking the BJP-led State Government for taking effective steps to construct the Ghunasuti Bridge. The same meeting took further resolution to prioritize the strengthening and reconstruction of the old DK Road to connect with the Ghunasuti Bridge and to construct the same bridge by connecting Mur Siga and Bamunijan.
