DIBRUGARH: The Eastern Assam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EACCI) wrote to IndiGo Airlines, requesting the launch of direct flights from Dibrugarh to Mumbai and Jaipur to boost regional connectivity and economic growth.
Highlighting Dibrugarh’s status as Assam’s second capital and a gateway to Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the chamber emphasized the need for better air links with major business hubs.
With the Dibrugarh airport, soon to be named after Dr Bhupen Hazarika, experiencing steady growth, the chamber believes that direct flights would support trade, tourism, and investment in the region. Dibrugarh airport is one of the important airports situated in the easternmost part of Assam which plays a crucial role in boosting the tourism sector.
The Assam Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution recently urging the Centre to rename the Dibrugarh airport in honour of the legendary musician, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, as the state prepares a yearlong centenary celebration of his birthday from September 8.
