LAKHIMPUR: Marking the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of the holy month of Ramadan, the people from the Muslim community across Lakhimpur district celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with enthusiasm and spiritual fervour.

Thousands of people of the community had congregated in the Kendriya Eidgah at North Lakhimpur town for community prayers at around 9:00 am. The community namaaz was conducted by Moulana Kari Abidur Rahman, the Imam of Nakari Jame Masjid. It was followed by a sermon and then the mandatory supplication asking for Allah's forgiveness, mercy, peace and blessings for all living beings across the world. In addition, the people visited the kabarstans (crematory ground) in the district and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of their ancestors.

The festive mood was apparent in the streets as people were sporting new clothes and exchanging pleasantries and Eid greetings. After two years of restraint (caused by the pandemic) people of the town had hosted lunches and dinners for friends and relatives at home and in the community centres.

Community namaaz was also held in the Eidgahs and Jame Masjids of Kadam, Bihpuria, Bongalmora and Narayanpur. On behalf of the Lakhimpur Sachetan Nagarik Samaj, Muhammad Sajad Hazarika, Mufti Abdul Hasib, Guljar Hussain, Chandan Chakraborty, Nandalal Basfore, Tajuddin Ahmed Laskar, Syed Mofizur Rahman, Manab Adhikar and the Sangram Samiti State Secretary Raju Singha extended greetings to the people of the State.
