First PhD of Assam Tea-tribes community Dr Bulu Tanti passes away

DOOMDOOMA: Dr Bulu Tanti, former Associate Professor of History, Margherita College, died on Wednesday night at his Tapon, Rupaisiding residence. He was 70 and is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter -in-law and two married daughters and two sons-in-law. Born on March 1, 1955, he attained his superannuation from Margherita College in 2015. Since then he was closely associated with a good number of socio-cultural organizations. He was Chief Adviser of Asam Odiya Mahasabha, Adviser, Assam Tea-tribes Students Association (ATTSA) central committee, former President Assam Tea Tribes Welfare Committee, Rupaisiding, Ex-President, Kasturba Gandhi Unnayan Kendra, Daimukhia TE, Ex-President, Rupai High School Management and Development Committee.    He was first PhD degree holder of Assam Tea Tribes community. The subject of his PhD thesis was “Social Folk-customs of the Oriya origin people of the Tea Gardens of Assam.”  In line with his PhD research work, he also published a book in Assamese recently captioned “Asamor Chah Janogosthiya Odiya Samajor Itibritta Aru Parampora” published by Asam Odiya Mahasabha.     His death cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by MLA-cum-Minister Rupesh Gowala, Rupaisiding High School, Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, ASAM Odiya Mahasabha, Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Doomdooma College, Bir Raghav Moran Government Model college, Durga Bhumij, Ex-MLA Doomdooma among others.
